A vision statement is a statement of what an organization or business hopes to experience in its next phase of growth. A vision is a poetic statement of the idealistic future of an organization or business. Vision depicts the deep human emotional state that an organization hopes to experience by the people it interacts with, it sets the foundation for the company so that it can ultimately create some sort of cosmic impact on this ever-changing world. The organization’s vision is the cornerstone upon which all of the other goals and strategies are built and the vision of the company will determine what these other strategies entail.
The first step to developing a vision statement would be to write down your goals. You should list your mission statement at this time and make sure that you have included a clear description of why you want the vision to happen. You should also list your key stakeholders that will ultimately become a part of your vision. These key stakeholders should be listed in order of importance. The executive officer, the board of directors, the employees, customers and the entire company.
The second step in developing your vision is to write down what your vision looks like in a sentence. This sentence will be your vision statement. It should be short, sweet, yet clear and direct. If you can’t do this, consider hiring a professional. Your vision statement should be written in a way that allows the vision to flow easily. If you cannot find the words to describe your vision, consider having someone write it for you.
Next you will need to identify the problem that your vision is addressing. There are many different types of problems that an organization has. You should think about the problems that your company currently faces. For instance, do you have problems with customer service, or lack of recognition, or a lack of a strong culture? Your vision will be more effective if you address the problems that you are facing now, the problems that are plaguing the current company, and the problems that you hope will be addressed when the company starts to grow.
Next you must write about what you hope to accomplish for your current employees and for your customers. You want to address the things that you want to change about your organization, things that are not working. and things that you do not want to change. You want to address the areas where there is a disconnect between the vision of your company and the reality of the company. By addressing these areas you will make the vision a reality is what you desire.
Next, you will write about the changes you want to make in the current environment that are related to your vision. This includes your vision statement. In your vision statement, you will also have the opportunity to make suggestions of new things that are related to the vision that you set forth. You may even be able to list some of the new things that are already being done. The only problem with this is that sometimes you will have no suggestions to make in the current environment because you are trying to remain relevant in this ever changing world.
The final section of your vision statement will be the most important because it presents a list of all of your expectations and goals for your vision. If you do not write out this section, you may be missing out on the important things that are happening in your company right now. The most critical part of your vision statement should be where you list out what you hope to accomplish in the next five years, two years and in the next ten years.
Vision statements can be written on a piece of paper or on a white board. Either way you should include all of the information that you need to get started. Once you have written the vision statement down you will need to write down what you believe will help you achieve your goals.
