Something Cold this week This month features live music by Charlie Draheim
Thursday, March 11, 10pm ($3.00). Its that time again, all of you late night dark wave aficionados! Join us for a night of analog electronics and the best goth spotting in town. There will be plenty of dance and debauchery, plus warmer weather welcoming our backyard being open? We had a giant toilet paper riot at the last one, so BYOTP if you feel arsed to do so.
CHARLIE DRAHEIM will be performing a very special SOMETHING COLD dark 'n' noisy art-damaged set for our listening pleasure. You may know Charlie from his numerous releases and apparences on FAG TAPES, WIERD RECORDS, CHONDRITIC SOUND, and numerous other labels.
MEAN MUGGER also will be co-lining the show!
We'll also be celebrating the fantastic new label LA FORME LENTE and their impressive releases with artists such as Frank (Just Frank), Automelodi, Pierre Normal, Garçons Coiffeurs, ADN' Ckrystall, and more!
Hosted by DJ Justine Carver and Guest DJ Sean Christopher.

The Final Week for The Final Cut Last week to see this great exhibit!
In the fall of 2009 the Contemporary Art Institute of Detroit held its first annual members’ exhibition. The exhibition permitted all members to bring in work of any size, number or medium. There were no limits on where the work would be placed in the gallery and each member was responsible for installing their own work. Almost 30 artist members participated with most being new members to CAID. CAID’s Executive Director, Aaron Timlin, selected eight artists from the members show to be included in The Final Cut exhibition closes this week. The gallery is open Saturday, March 13th between 12pm and 4pm. [More about The Final Cut ]
The Crofoot presents AWESOME COLOR and TYVEK at the CAID Homecoming show for local hereos of international renown
The Crofootpresents Awesome Color, Tyvek and the Jovantaes on March 27 (doors @ 8PM, $7) at the CAID.
AWESOME COLOR: "Is it possible to smash a guitar un-self-consciously? It certainly seemed that way at Cake Shop earlier this month, when Awesome Color left a roomful of in-the-know types gleefully dumbstruck. (Oakley Hall was headlining-- that alone means several quality musicians were present.) Singer Derek Stanton's seemingly unpremeditated ax-whacking lacked any sense of violence or menace(which is fine). It was simply the final blow in a stream of gestures that translate across rock & roll forms; any punk, metal, or bar-rock fan can appreciate the thrill of someone playing guitar with his bare feet--and having it both look and sound cool. (Yes, Stanton did that, too). [more]
Yelp about CAID!
Yelper Sara "Lady Fantastic" A. says, "Located on Rosa Parks Blvd, in the most unassuming little building the CAID is one of Detroit's freshest and innovative art spaces. If you're not really looking, I mean really looking for this joint, you'll drive by it a million and one times. The small sign proclaiming its name it's difficult to see, so be prepared.
I've been to the CAID a number of times and am always impressed. The art shows have featured some of Metro Detroit's finest upcoming artists from photographs to sculptors to painters. You just never know what you're gonna get here and that's what I like..." More Yelps...
